It was purpose-built in 1916 as a small grocery store, with a second-floor home above for the family that ran it, and it has operated as a corner market in one form or another ever since. The store first took the name Mott's Market in 1962, and generations of Capitol Hill residents have depended on it for the everyday things a corner store provides: milk, eggs, sandwiches, cold drinks, and a friendly face behind the counter.
